Question: Switching from Accounting job to Finance/Investment job?
Hi,
Can anybody please advise me to change from Accounting field to Investment/Finance field. How can I convience in interview. Now I am having 6 years of experience in accounting. What are best possible ways and what are things to be taken care of.
Thanks in advance
Answer: Depends on your function.
If you want to go into M&A/Traditional Investment Banking, then its really easy. Lots of these roles require deep level of accounting (as you probably know).
If you want to go into trading/investment, then taking a MSc. Finance would be a good idea. Try to get into the most mathematical course, that you can. It signals a change in focus, and that you could be a valuable addition to an investment team, particularly a team involved in equity (i.e. you can understand the dynamics of market prices but also understand the financials (balance sheet, P&L, e.t.c) behind the firm)
