Question: UK fuel price rises and taxation?
Source, http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/uk-petrol-tax-jumps-at-twice-euro-average-skynews-e3fdd28c8dcf.html
British drivers have been hit by petrol tax rises running at twice the average rate across Europe, new data shows.
The AA said VAT on a tank of petrol in the UK has gone up 11.46% since the pre-Budget report at the end of November 2008.
That is over five times the increase seen in Austria and more than double the 5.07% average rise in 10 mainstream European countries, including France, Germany and Holland.
For UK diesel car owners, the fuel tax burden has increased 8.10% - marginally lower than the 8.33% in Ireland but almost three times the European average.
My question is what are we going to do about it? what happened to the fuel protests of a few years ago?
We have an election coming up, don't you think we should pressurise the politicians who will be desperate for our votes?
Answer: It seems to be that in England once prises rise, they never come down again. If people dont protest then they just keep rising the prises.
When people do protest and things are lowered, they make up for it by rising the prices of something else. I do think that this point should be made at the next election.
Its unfair that we should pay more for our fuel that other developed countries in europe.
