Structured Finance

Question: Early in the history of finance, an important issue was???
Liquidity
Technology
Capital Structure
Financing Options
Answer: Liquidity.
Before there were established markets for bonds (and later stocks), it was very difficult to convert a loan someone owed you to cash. The impact is that once you loaned money, you were pretty much stuck until it was paid off or you could find a purchaser. Markets made this process more routine, and as a lender you could get a ballpark on what you could sell a loan for ahead of the actual necessity to do so.
