Question: finance..legal help please

I explained to a finance adviser that i would like to put my money where my capital would remain the same ,but would allow me to receive an income every month, I left it to her, after telling her what I requested.Now after my first year statement my capital has dropped by many thousands, I find this very bad advice.I am far from rich..The money is what my husband had worked and saved for our old age, but sadly he has passed away.Is there anything that can be done about the advice I was given or just give up?
