Question: Getting a waitress job with a bachelor's degree?
I have a bachelor's degree and most of my recent work experience is in the finance field or as a math tutor. I am in school to get my certification to be a high school math teacher. My current tutor job is drying up (going out of business) and I don't really have many other options I can think of.
I figure that working as a waitress would be a good job pay wise, as I am in class (or doing observations at schools) from 8am-5pm, so that leaves out most office work.
I've never worked as a waitress, though I do have good cash handling experience and with a degree I'm obviously more than intelligent enough for the job.
Also, I am not adversed to working in a bar or strip club if that becomes an option.
However, what are some potential weak points and how can I overcome them in an interview? I'd like to work at a higher priced place than Denny's or Applebee's to yield higher tips, obviously.
I'm also open to suggestions for other jobs.
Answer: waiting tables is great money if you work in the right place. usually bar/restaurants are pretty good because the drinkers are good tippers. also places that have a higher priced menu usually have patrons that tip well. i made great money when i waited tables and only worked about 15 hours a week so i was still able to do well in school.
